About the Program / What is 2nd Recess?
2nd Recess is a health centered 501(c)3 youth running nonprofit serving San Diego County and schools/recreation sites across the country. Since our inception in the summer of 2011, our focus has been on inspiring San Diego youth and their families to be active through running and track & field. Introducing kids to fun and fitness through running builds healthy habits and reduces instances of obesity in adulthood.
Our team of coaches and volunteers are highly educated and active in their respective athletic fields. We have Olympic Trials finalists, former NCAA varsity athletes, and locally competitive athletes who all share their unique experiences with our 2nd Recessers.
At 2nd Recess we believe that being healthy and active in the community is a key ingredient to inspiring others to be active as well. Through Patience, Perseverance, and Positivity we encourage athletes in our program to set big goals and explore their athletic gifts.
Our 1-hour practices are designed to teach the power of exercise, teamwork, and healthy living. During practices, participants will learn about:
- Warming up & cooling down
- Drills, stretching, and “striders”
- Fun workouts, including Cross Country and Track & Field
- Goal setting, Patience, Perseverance, and Positivity
We have athletes of all ages, from as young as five years old all the way up to 14 years old. Practices are tailored to fit each athletes age and ability, and are always centered on having fun while challenging yourself.
We are proud to be serving the San Diego community and now nationwide with the availability of the 2nd Recess School and Recreational Site Curriculum. As a passionate organization we will continue to inspire others through fun and fitness. 2nd Recess practices take place at multiple locations in San Diego County.
